Predicting Time's "Person" Of the Year

I think the clear favorite to be Time magazine's Person of the Year is Mohamed Bouazizi. And who is Mohamed Bouazizi?

He is the Tunisian street vendor, who, in protest against draconian measures that threatened his means of earning an income (and, therefore, his life) set himself on fire on Dec. 17th, 2010. This lead to his death on Jan. 4th, 2011. He was 26 years old.

In reaction to his death, Tunisians began to protest. It's no stretch to say that his act lead to the sweeping changes in North Africa and the Middle East, including the toppling of governments long thought secure (due to their dictatorial ways). Things are still not "perfect" for most citizens in these countries, but what we have seen has to be considered a revolution. People fighting for their freedom is quite something.

The Lord moves in mysterious ways...we'll see what comes of these changes.

I had completely forgotten about Mohamed Bouazizi. According to Time's criteria, I agree that he "for better or for worse, ...has done the most to influence the events of the year."

I guess we'll see soon enough.
